After September 20, 2026, servicemen who voluntarily left the unit may return to service on general terms through the Military Law Enforcement Service or reserve battalions. The simplified program, which was in effect for cases of desertion recorded before June 12, 2026, ended on September 20.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Return now involves a longer process, waiting for the restoration of financial support, and the inability to independently choose a military unit.<\/p>\n

A serviceman can contact the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or submit a report through the “Army+” application. After processing the report, the Military Law Enforcement Service directs the serviceman to one of the reserve battalions.<\/p>\n

After confirming the report in “Army+”, the serviceman has 24 hours to arrive at the appropriate unit of the VSP, receive an order, and leave for the reserve unit.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival at the reserve battalion, the commander, within 3 days, issues an order to include the serviceman in the list of temporarily arrived personnel and assigns him a task.<\/p>\n

Reserve battalion commanders also consider letters of recommendation from combat brigades that need reinforcements. Recommendations from support military units are not taken into account.<\/p>\n

A serviceman may be exempted from criminal liability if he committed a military service offense for the first time during martial law. To do this, it is necessary to submit a report, obtain the commander’s written consent to continue service, and apply to the investigator, prosecutor, or court with the appropriate petition.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tightened control so that servicemen with suspended military service were not involved in official and combat missions<\/a> .
