Russia plans to significantly increase production of materials for Shahed-type strike drones. The expansion of the Alabuga-Volokno plant in Tatarstan could potentially allow the production of about 28,000 more drones per year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Politico reports<\/a> this, citing internal documents from the Russian state corporation Rosatom.<\/p>\n

This is an expansion of the Alabuga-Volokno plant, which produces carbon fiber. This light and strong material is used, in particular, to manufacture the bodies of long-range strike drones.<\/p>\n

According to the documents, by 2029,<\/strong> the new facilities should provide an additional 500 tons of aerospace carbon fiber production each year<\/strong> .<\/p>\n

David Albright, president of the US Institute for Science and International Security, estimated that this amount of material could theoretically be enough to produce about 28,000 additional strike drones per year<\/strong> . This is about 78%<\/strong> more than Russia’s current estimated capabilities.<\/p>\n

According to Ukrainian estimates, the Russian Federation can currently produce over 36,000<\/strong> Shahed\/Geran family strike drones each year.<\/p>\n\t

Satellite images of the company’s territory also indicate preparations for the expansion of the production complex. They show cleared areas next to the plant, where new facilities are planned to be built.<\/p>\n

Separately, the Ukrainian OSINT project Dnipro Osint reported<\/a> that underground production facilities for Shahed are being built in the Alabuga special economic zone. According to analysts, about 42 thousand m\u00b2<\/strong> of such space has already been created.<\/p>\n

Analysts suggest that the transfer of part of the production underground began after the Ukrainian strikes on Alabuz. In parallel, the Russians are dispersing the infrastructure and strengthening its protection. <\/p>\n
