President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the main results of his talks with Donald Trump in New York. The two discussed a possible energy truce with Russia, strengthening Ukraine\u2019s air defense, producing Patriot missiles in Ukraine, and further sanctions pressure on Moscow.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zelenskyy announced<\/a> this during a conversation with journalists after a meeting with the US president.<\/p>\n

One of the main topics was the possible cessation of attacks on the energy sector. Ukraine is ready not to attack Russian energy facilities if Russia, in response, stops attacks on the Ukrainian energy system and critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

According to Zelensky, the US has agreed to pass this proposal on to the Russian side. Moscow’s response remains unknown.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the president emphasized that Ukraine has no choice but to respond. If Russia continues to attack Ukrainian energy, Ukraine will respond.<\/p>\n

Separately, Zelensky and Trump discussed strengthening air defenses ahead of winter. Ukraine expects to receive additional Patriot missiles as part of the winter air defense package.<\/p>\n

Kyiv also wants to produce Patriot interceptor missiles directly in Ukraine. This requires American licenses.<\/p>\n

Zelensky said that his military adviser, Pavlo Palisa, has already held talks with Raytheon. According to the president, the company is ready to cooperate, and Trump responded positively to Ukraine’s request to help speed up the licensing process.<\/p>\n

Launching such production could take about a year and a half. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine will also need its own production of Patriot missiles in the future.<\/p>\n

Another issue was the possibility of new sanctions pressure on Russia. Zelensky said that the US could apply so-called “hell sanctions” if Moscow does not de-escalate.<\/p>\n

According to the president, Ukraine is counting on using this tool if Vladimir Putin does not show willingness to change his position and take steps to end the war.<\/p>\n

This includes possible new restrictions on Russia’s energy, defense, and “shadow fleet” sectors. It also includes the possibility of imposing tariffs of up to 100% on goods from countries that continue to buy large amounts of Russian oil and gas or help circumvent sanctions.<\/p>\n

Zelensky and Trump also discussed possible steps to de-escalate and return to diplomacy. The Ukrainian president said both countries want to end the war before winter.<\/p>\n

In addition, Zelensky suggested involving China in diplomatic efforts. In his view, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s participation could influence Putin’s position.<\/p>\n

Recall that earlier Donald Trump had already called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries<\/a>, linking them to problems in the global diesel fuel market.<\/p>\n

Before that, Zelensky spoke about the expected meeting with Trump<\/a> on September 20th and stated that he planned to raise the issue of countering the Russian ballistic threat.<\/p>\n

In addition, Trump recently signed a law on sanctions against Russia and Iran<\/a> that, in particular, allows tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil and gas.<\/p>\n
