The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has changed the rules under which athletes from Russia and Belarus can obtain neutral status and participate in international competitions. The changes concern, in particular, athletes’ ties to military and law enforcement agencies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the FIS press service.<\/p>\n

Previously, an athlete could not obtain neutral status if they had any connection to the armed forces or national security agencies of Russia or Belarus.<\/p>\n

The FIS now prohibits participation only by those athletes and their personnel who voluntarily serve under contract in the armed forces or national security agencies of Russia or Belarus.<\/p>\n

Thus, the mere fact of connection with military or law enforcement agencies no longer means an automatic denial of neutral status.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the national teams of Russia and Belarus, as before, cannot participate in competitions under the auspices of the FIS. The Federation also does not hold or sanction international competitions in the territory of these two countries.<\/p>\n
