More than 50 UN member states have called on Russia to agree to a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire and move to meaningful peace talks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> Ukrinform, citing a joint statement issued by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas before the UN Security Council meeting.<\/p>\n

In the document, the countries confirmed their support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and also emphasized the need to adhere to the principles of the UN Charter.<\/p>\n

Separately, the authors of the statement expressed concern about the intensification of Russian attacks against the civilian population and infrastructure of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The statement recalled that Ukraine agreed to a complete, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire<\/strong> in March 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call on Russia to finally do the same as a necessary step towards meaningful diplomacy and negotiations leading to peace,\u201d the document states.<\/p>\n

Russia was also called upon to immediately, safely and unconditionally return to Ukraine all illegally detained, forcibly displaced or deported civilians, including children, as well as all prisoners of war and internees.<\/p>\n

Separately, countries expressed concern about Russian attacks in the Black Sea and stressed the need to protect commercial shipping and critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cUkraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must stop its aggression, agree to a ceasefire, and meaningfully engage in negotiations for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in accordance with international law,\u201d the authors of the statement emphasized.<\/p>\n

The document was supported by most European countries, as well as Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Honduras, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Panama, and South Korea.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on September 22 , Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump held talks in New York<\/a> . Among the topics were the end of the war, strengthening Ukrainian air defense, and further sanctions pressure on Russia.<\/p>\n
