President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with international partners during his visit to New York. As a result of the meetings, Ukraine agreed with Australia on long-term security cooperation, and signed an agreement with Finland in the field of unmanned systems. Separately, the partners discussed strengthening air defense and protecting Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ukraine and Australia signed a security agreement<\/h3>\n

Zelensky and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albenizi signed a bilateral agreement on long-term support and cooperation.<\/p>\n

Canberra will continue military and financial assistance to Ukraine, including training of the Ukrainian military. Australia will also participate in the NSATU and PURL programs and join the Unmanned Systems Coalition.<\/p>\n

Separately, the countries plan to develop cooperation in the defense industry. Among the possible areas is the joint production of air defense systems, missiles, drones, and other military products. For this, in particular, they can create joint ventures.<\/p>\n

The agreements also concern energy support for Ukraine, the return of children illegally removed by Russia, the rehabilitation and reintegration of veterans, economic recovery and reconstruction.<\/p>\n

In addition, the countries will cooperate in the field of mine clearance, maritime security, countering Russian propaganda, and attracting private investment.<\/p>\n

The agreement with Australia became Ukraine’s 30th bilateral security agreement within the framework of the implementation of the G7 Joint Declaration, adopted in Vilnius on July 12, 2023.<\/p>\n

Australia announces new aid to Ukraine<\/h3>\n

During the talks, Zelensky and Albenizi also discussed military, energy, and humanitarian support for Ukraine, the development of defense technologies, and further strengthening of sanctions against Russia.<\/p>\n

Australia has announced a new $60 million aid package. The money will be directed to the energy sector, protective equipment, and humanitarian needs.<\/p>\n

Zelensky thanked the Australian side for its support and stated Ukraine’s readiness to share its own technologies and experience. In particular, we are talking about sea drones, land-based robotic platforms, and artificial intelligence systems.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian and Australian teams will also continue preparing the Drone Deal, which should strengthen technological cooperation between the countries.<\/p>\n

Canberra has also imposed new sanctions against individuals associated with the Russian government and vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet”.<\/p>\n

Albenizi said Australia sees its support for Ukraine as part of defending international law and the global order. He said impunity for violations of international norms could set a dangerous precedent for other states.<\/p>\n

Zelensky, Stubb and Stere discussed Ukraine’s preparations for winter<\/h3>\n

Another meeting of Zelensky in New York was negotiations with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr St\u00f8re.<\/p>\n

The main focus was on the winter support package, protecting Ukrainian energy infrastructure from Russian attacks, and strengthening air defense.<\/p>\n

“We are working to maximize air defense before the onset of winter and deprive Russia of the stakes of ballistic terror,” Zelenskyy noted.<\/p>\n

The President of Ukraine also told his partners about the negotiations with the American side and emphasized the need to increase pressure on Russia through sanctions and support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Following the meeting, Ukraine and Finland signed the Drone Deal, an agreement on cooperation in the field of unmanned systems. It became the 11th agreement of this format concluded by Ukraine with international partners.<\/p>\n

The document provides not only for the supply of drones, but also for the exchange of technologies and combat experience, joint production, and cooperation between defense companies.<\/p>\n

Stubb reported that Finland has already provided 34 aid packages to Ukraine. He also noted the development of Ukrainian defense production, particularly in the field of unmanned systems.<\/p>\n
