Belgium believes that under Donald Trump’s presidency, the United States can no longer be relied upon as a reliable ally. Therefore, the country is proposing to reconsider relations with Washington.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> the Financial Times, citing an internal document of the Belgian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n

The document was prepared at the end of 2025. In it, diplomats warn that US policy could affect the important interests of Belgium and the entire European Union.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, Belgium does not want to quarrel with Washington. The Foreign Ministry believes that it is necessary to continue working with the Trump administration, but at the same time not to limit contacts to the White House.<\/p>\n

Belgian diplomats are advised to work more with Congress, Republican and Democratic state governments, and mayors of major cities. They are also advised to maintain contacts with Democrats and seek out politicians from both parties who may gain more influence in the future.<\/p>\n

Another issue is weapons. The document notes that the Trump team is receptive to American weapons purchases. At the same time, Belgium itself is advised to buy more European military equipment.<\/p>\n
