This winter in Ukraine may be mostly warm, but severe frosts may still occur. In the second half of winter, the temperature may drop sharply to -15…-20\u00b0C in some places.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated<\/a> in an analysis by the NOAA Climate Prediction Center.<\/p>\n

The reason for this cooling could be the situation in the Arctic. Forecasters are monitoring the polar vortex – a large mass of cold air that usually remains in the north.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

If the polar vortex weakens, Arctic air could move south and reach Ukraine.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The greatest risk of such a cold snap is expected from January 15 to February 20. Severe frosts may primarily affect Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions.<\/p>\n

The temperature can drop very quickly – literally in a day or a half. For example, after +2\u00b0C, the thermometer bars can show -15…-20\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Such cold weather may last for about 5-10 days. Then warmer air from the Atlantic may again come to Ukraine.<\/p>\n
