The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti published an article on September 25 about a possible military conflict between Russia and Lithuania. The author of the article stated that such a conflict could be short-lived and also admitted the use of missiles with appropriate charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by Russian media.<\/p>\n

A publication titled “Another SVO awaits Russia. It will be very short” appeared on the main page of RIA Novosti after the Lithuanian parliament decided to lift the ban on the deployment of nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

The author of the publication, Oleksandr Nosovich, a member of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy (CFP), one of the co-founders of the Valdai Club, at whose meetings Vladimir Putin regularly speaks, compared the situation with Ukraine and stated that the deployment of nuclear warheads in Lithuania could become a pretext for Russia to respond militarily.<\/p>\n

“Russia has a choice: how to fight. It’s not even a question of whether it’s long or quick. It’s clear that quick: a military conflict in the Baltics simply because of geography cannot be the same as in Ukraine,” the author wrote.<\/p>\n

He also suggested the possibility of Russia refusing to deploy ground troops and use missiles.<\/p>\n

The publication came amid statements by European officials about possible threats from Russia to NATO countries. At the same time, Russia publicly denies having plans to attack European states.<\/p>\n

The day before, the Lithuanian Seimas supported a proposal to remove from the Constitution a provision that prohibits the deployment of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, in the country.<\/a> However, a final decision has not yet been made.<\/p>\n

Recall that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that Russia could be preparing provocations in Poland or the Baltic states to test NATO unity<\/a> . According to him, intelligence has received signals about possible preparations for attacks on critical infrastructure of the Alliance countries.<\/p>\n
