A powerful northeast storm has battered the US East Coast, causing flooding, high winds and widespread power outages. A state of emergency has been declared in New York and New Jersey, and a man has died in Brooklyn after a tree fell on him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In New York, more than 37,500 customers were left without power, and in Connecticut, 31,300. In New Jersey, about 70,000 customers were simultaneously without power, and the total number of outages in the northeastern United States exceeded 150,000.<\/p>\n

The storm also caused widespread problems with air travel. As of 7:00 p.m. Kyiv time, more than 3,000 flights in the United States were delayed and another 430 were canceled.<\/p>\n

The strongest wind gust was recorded in Surf City, New Jersey, at 74 miles per hour. The storm damaged trees and power lines, and also caused high waves. <\/p>\n
