The SBU military counterintelligence has detained a serviceman in the Donetsk region who was recruited by the Russian FSB to collect information about Ukrainian units. He was passing on to the enemy data about the combat positions and tasks of his brigade in the Kramatorsk direction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Security Service of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, the detained man was a machine gunner from one of the brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Forces. He was passing on information to the Russians about the directions of movement and combat missions of the company in which he served.<\/p>\n

The serviceman also reported to the FSB about the consequences of Russian attacks on his unit’s deployment points on the front line.<\/p>\n

Counterintelligence officers exposed him at the initial stage of his espionage activities. They detained the man while he was preparing a new “report” for the Russian special services.<\/p>\n

As the investigation found, the Russians recruited the soldier through a Telegram channel to seek close relationships. After that, he began marking the geolocations of Ukrainian soldiers on Google Maps and covertly taking photos of military facilities on his phone.<\/p>\n

During the search, a mobile phone containing evidence of his cooperation with the FSB was seized from the detainee.<\/p>\n

SBU investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law.<\/p>\n

The man is being held without bail and faces up to eight years in prison.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are checking the possibility of additional qualification of the defendant’s actions under the article on high treason.<\/p>\n
