The reactor itself was not damaged, and no changes in the radiation background were recorded.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/snriu.gov.ua\/news\/rf-prodovzhuie-iadernyi-teror-zavdano-udaru-bezpilotnykom-po-terytorii-instytutu-iadernykh-doslidzhen-u-kyievi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was reported<\/a> by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p> According to the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the impact occurred <strong>on September 30 at 6:18 p.m.<\/strong> A fire broke out after the impact, which was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries.<\/p>\n<p> The VVR-M reactor and its safety-critical systems were not damaged. The radiation background also remained unchanged and is <strong>0.16\u20130.20 microsieverts per hour<\/strong> , which corresponds to the natural level.<\/p>\n<p> The State Nuclear Regulatory Commission noted that the reactor has been in a shutdown state since February 2022. Its core has been completely unloaded, and operation is now limited to routine maintenance of systems important for safety.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;The VVR-M reactor is used as a neutron source for fundamental and applied research in the field of nuclear physics. Therefore, a UAV strike on the territory of the Institute for Nuclear Research is an attack on a peaceful nuclear facility that performs an exclusively scientific and research function,&#8221; the inspectorate said.<\/p>\n<p> They added that an investigation and assessment of the damage caused by the attack are ongoing.<\/p>\n<p> Recall, on September 30, Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/rf-atakuvala-kyiv-balistykoiu-ta-shvydkisnymy-dronamy-ie-zahybli-ta-postrazhdali\/\">attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles and high-speed drones<\/a> .
