US President Donald Trump has announced that Europe has decided to release large amounts of diesel fuel from its reserves onto the market. He said the process will begin immediately.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He wrote about this in Truth Social<\/a> .<\/p>\n

“Europe has just decided to release huge amounts of diesel fuel, which is currently in significant supply,” Trump said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Reuters<\/a> journalists, citing two sources familiar with the discussions, reported that EU countries on Friday were only considering a French proposal to release diesel stocks. It envisages that European countries would release 50 million barrels of diesel, and members of the International Energy Agency (IEA) would release another 50 million barrels of oil.<\/p>\n

According to journalists, the 50 million barrels represent about 17% of the EU’s emergency diesel and gasoil stocks and about 3% of the bloc’s annual consumption of these fuels. These calculations are based on Eurostat data as of May 2025.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Trump administration demanded that Germany and France reduce their emergency diesel stocks or face a ban on U.S. exports of their own diesel. Washington has demanded that major European countries, including France and Germany, release 100 million barrels of diesel within 20 days, one of the sources said.<\/p>\n

Political pressure is mounting as Trump considers banning U.S. diesel exports to lower domestic fuel prices ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections. During a call on Friday, EU countries discussed whether to make any deal conditional on the U.S. committing not to unilaterally ban diesel exports.<\/p>\n
