It is colored to indicate that it is intended for off-road use, such as in agricultural and construction equipment. It is sold without federal fuel tax.

The new order provides for a deferral of federal excise tax on such diesel fuel when it is used on the road. Tax liabilities arising from October 5 through December 31 are to be deferred without penalty or interest. At the same time, the Trump administration has instructed to study the possibility of completely eliminating these deferred payments.

The White House also instructed federal agencies to coordinate with states to implement similar measures. Separately, it is planned to ensure farmers’ access to red diesel fuel reserves in regions with high demand.

For American truckers, the decision could have a significant financial impact. According to the White House, the federal tax on diesel is 24.4 cents per gallon. For a 250-gallon truck, that’s about $61 in federal tax savings alone, and if states follow suit, the total cost of fueling could be more than $100.

High diesel prices in the US are linked to reduced global supplies and problems with oil refining. The White House also links the rise in fuel costs to the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine and other disruptions in the global market.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order temporarily allowing the use of cheaper diesel fuel with red dye on the roads, a move aimed at reducing costs for American truck drivers, farmers and other consumers amid high diesel prices.
