U.S. and Russian officials are discussing the possible involvement of an American investor in the Nord Stream gas pipeline. The talks come as Washington and Moscow try to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reuters reports<\/a> this, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.<\/p>\n

According to the agency, high-ranking representatives of both sides are involved in the discussions, including Kremlin special representative Kirill Dmitriev and Jared Kushner.<\/p>\n

Reuters sources say Kushner is considering economic cooperation with Moscow as one of the possible elements of a future peace settlement.<\/p>\n

One option involves attracting American investors to Nord Stream. In this case, American businesses could profit from future supplies of Russian gas to Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny deals must be agreed by Russia with the DFC and the Treasury Department and must benefit American taxpayers and companies,\u201d one of the sources told Reuters.<\/p>\n

In September, Dmitriev also met with representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Treasury Department. The parties discussed potential energy projects between Russia and the United States.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Reuters notes that it is still unclear how much Washington is really interested in resuming Russian gas supplies to Germany.<\/p>\n

One American official assessed the possibility of concluding such an agreement as low due to a significant number of political and legal obstacles.<\/p>\n

The German Ministry of Economics and Energy recalled that Nord Stream and Russian gas are under sanctions, and the country has already found alternative sources of supply.<\/p>\n

Reuters also reports that the US and Russia have discussed the possible sale of assets of Russian energy company Lukoil during the contacts. The potential structure of the deal could include the participation of American and Middle Eastern investors.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, at the end of September, Kirill Dmitriev met with Trump representatives in New York<\/a> . The parties discussed relations between Washington and Moscow and the end of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n
