Ukraine is introducing mandatory military training under the Medical Service Reserve Officers’ Program for students majoring in medicine and pharmacy. Applicants in 2026 will begin this program in their second year. However, this does not automatically mean conscription into the army upon completion of their studies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported<\/a> this.<\/p>\n

The innovation will apply to students at public and private higher education institutions. The program will be open to those who are medically fit for military service and have successfully passed a professional and psychological screening.<\/p>\n

For those entering the 2026 program, training will be conducted in stages. In their first year, students will study the fundamentals of national resistance\u2014a required course for representatives of various specialties. In their second year, they will begin training in the Medical Service Reserve Officers’ Program.<\/p>\n

Corresponding changes have already been made to the educational programs in the specialties of Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry, and Pharmacy.<\/p>\n

Training will be provided by universities with relevant departments. If such a department does not exist, students may complete their training at another higher education institution.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Health, departments of disaster medicine and military medicine exist at 10 of the 15 medical universities under the ministry’s jurisdiction. Another institution plans to open such a department. Six universities under the Ministry of Education and Science are also ready to join the training program. A corresponding department is planned to be established at the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health explains that the program’s goal is to prepare future medical professionals and pharmacists for work in military and emergency situations. During their training, students will master the specifics of medical support in wartime and acquire crisis response skills.<\/p>\n
