The first tanker of Russian diesel fuel is likely heading to the US East Coast after Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin announced an agreement on fuel supplies. However, due to the reduction in Russian exports and the shortage of petroleum products in the Russian Federation, these deliveries are unlikely to have a significant impact on prices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Analyst Michelle Wiese Bockmann reports on this.<\/p>\n

Marine analytics company Windward is tracking the tanker MINERVA ZEN, which is believed to be carrying the first shipment of Russian diesel to the U.S. The vessel left the port of St. Petersburg on September 22<\/strong> with approximately 280,000 barrels of diesel and gas oil on board, but its destination was initially undisclosed.<\/p>\n

According to OSINT analysts, the tanker could arrive on the US East Coast within 48\u201372 hours.<\/p>\n

Wiese Bockmann believes that the volumes of possible Russian diesel supplies to the US will be insignificant. They will not be able to overcome the global fuel shortage or significantly affect prices on the American market.<\/p>\n

According to the analytical company Vortexa, in the 3rd quarter of 2026, exports of diesel and gas oil from Russia decreased to 190 thousand barrels per day. For comparison, in the 1st quarter this figure was 850 thousand barrels per day, and in the 2nd quarter – 690 thousand.<\/p>\n

In July, Russia extended a ban on the export of gasoline and diesel fuel to overcome shortages in the domestic market.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as of October 4, 51% of Russia’s oil refining capacity was out of operation due to strikes on Russian oil refineries.<\/p>\n

Fuel shortages in Russia led to the country importing diesel, gas oil and gasoline in the third quarter. The last recorded delivery of 150,000 barrels of diesel was delivered to the port of Vysotsk on October 7 by the Russian-flagged tanker Soyana, which is under sanctions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Recall that US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Vladimir Putin on the supply of Russian diesel fuel<\/a> to the American and world markets. According to him, Russia should immediately supply more than 300 thousand tons of fuel, and later – several million tons more.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, the United Kingdom, Finland and the European Union reacted to the agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/a> to supply Russian diesel fuel to the American and world markets. Representatives of European states and the European Commission stressed the need to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia and reduce dependence on its energy resources.<\/p>\n
