{"id":1451634,"date":"2026-10-12T07:25:55","date_gmt":"2026-10-12T04:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/putin-s-lifeline-us-senators-say-trump-s-decision-is-against-the-law\/"},"modified":"2026-10-12T07:25:55","modified_gmt":"2026-10-12T04:25:55","slug":"putin-s-lifeline-us-senators-say-trump-s-decision-is-against-the-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/putin-s-lifeline-us-senators-say-trump-s-decision-is-against-the-law\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cPutin\u2019s lifeline\u201d: US senators say Trump\u2019s decision is against the law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Seven US senators from the Republican and Democratic parties have said that President Donald Trump&#8217;s decision to allow the import of Russian diesel fuel into the US violates federal law and should be overturned.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foreign.senate.gov\/press\/dem\/release\/ranking-member-shaheen-and-6-bipartisan-senatorsstatement-on-legality-of-imports-of-russian-diesel-fuel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">is stated<\/a> in a joint statement of senators released by the US Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<p> The document was signed by Gene Shagin, Susan Collins, Richard Blumenthal, Lisa Murkowski, Ron Wyden, Tom Tillis and John Curtis.<\/p>\n<p> The senators recalled that in 2022, Congress directly banned the import of Russian energy resources to the United States so that American funds would not finance Russia&#8217;s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p> According to them, Trump&#8217;s decision to allow the supply of Russian diesel to the United States &#8220;directly contradicts&#8221; this law.<\/p>\n<p> The senators also stated that the administration failed to consult with Congress and failed to provide the statutory explanation for its decision.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cThe United States should not provide Putin with a financial lifeline while Russia continues to kill Ukrainian civilians. The administration must change course immediately,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p> Reuters also reports that the authors of the appeal include four Republicans and three Democrats.
