The situation seems to be much more complicated.

To begin with, let me remind you that Russian oil and oil products are not subject to as severe sanctions as one might think. Moreover, Ukraine plays an active role in the trade of Russian oil, ensuring the operation of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

At one time, the EU and the US legally banned themselves from buying Russian oil, and set a price ceiling for everyone else. At the same time, Russia continued to sell fuel freely. The tanker with Russian diesel that suddenly materialized near Florida is additional confirmation of this. It left a Russian port in September, passed through all of Northern Europe, and no one stopped it.

Thus, Trump’s statement will not lead to the supply of diesel to the US, as this is prohibited by a law passed in 2022. And it will not bring Russia additional funds, because everything it could sell, it sold before – without any special problems.

The question arises: why all these statements then?

The simplest answer is that it’s part of the American election campaign. Such statements are supposed to help Republican candidates win votes. But, obviously, this is not the only possible explanation.

Information that emerged this weekend suggests that the US is actively negotiating with Ukraine and the Kremlin to end the war. It is obvious that 300 tons of Russian diesel are unlikely to have a significant impact on voters. On the other hand, ending the war or at least achieving some kind of truce could radically change the situation. In fact, Trump has already made a false start when he declared an energy truce a few weeks ago, which corresponded to the minimum program.

As far as we can tell, Ukraine was put forward demands for a ceasefire. What exactly these demands are is unknown, so I won’t speculate. But if they were indeed brought to Kyiv by Witkoff during his visit, it’s unlikely that anything good was there. Before that, he was in Moscow, and for many years they have only dreamed of “denazification and demilitarization.”

If this is the case, then it seems that the Ukrainian leadership, having learned from past experience, did not immediately refuse to deal with the scandal this time. Instead, it took time to think and moved on to discussing the details.

To speed up the process, Russia has intensified its attacks on civilians in the rear, practically abandoning any conventions. In fact, it is going all-in, launching everything it has into the Ukrainian rear. Most likely, the Americans have also increased the pressure through their own channels.

To understand whether the authorities can, in principle, offer society “difficult solutions,” a campaign for peace at any cost was launched within the country.

Ultimately, Ukrainian negotiators flew to the United States to finalize the agreements, involving representatives of European partners in the process.

But since we still didn’t agree to the Russian terms, the Americans increased their pressure. Witkoff hinted at a possible end to intelligence sharing, and Trump said the US was ready to lift sanctions on Russia altogether.

And this is just a few weeks after the passage of Lindsey Graham’s law, which provides for the introduction of tariffs against buyers of Russian oil. Now the United States itself seems ready to buy Russian oil. Here, even China has begun to scratch its head.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

The materials published in the “OPINIONS” section reflect the opinion of the author of the publication, who bears full responsibility for the veracity of the information.

The editorial staff of prm.ua may not share the opinions expressed in the author’s material.

The owner of the webpage in the “OPINIONS” section is the author of the publication.

Source: Author’s Facebook page On the second day of the “fight for diesel”, it became obvious that diesel is of no use here at all.
