Russian company Yandex has suspended operations at a data center in Sasovo, Ryazan region, after a drone attack caused a fire and damaged infrastructure. Three Russian supercomputers were also damaged and some Telegram accounts critical of Ukraine were down.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yandex said that after a drone attack on Thursday, its data center in Sasovo has completely stopped working. As a result, some of the company’s services may be unavailable to users.<\/p>\n

“We are still assessing the extent of the damage to our infrastructure. At this stage, we cannot confirm whether the equipment in our data center in Sasovo can be restored,” the company said.<\/p>\n

According to Yandex, there were no injuries. Emergency services are working at the scene to eliminate the consequences of the attack.<\/p>\n

Analysts noted that after reports of damage to three Yandex data centers, the activity of some Telegram accounts critical of Ukraine decreased sharply. He noted that the possible connection between these events requires further investigation.<\/p>\n

Experts said researchers have yet to determine whether the attacks on Yandex’s infrastructure are linked to changes in the activity of online bots. He also mentioned possible parallels with similar cases in other countries.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the affected data centers housed 3 Russian supercomputers: “Chervonenkis”, launched in 2021, “Lyapunov” in 2020, and “Galushkin” in 2021.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Chervonenkis ranked 19th in the world supercomputer rankings. In the TOP500 rankings for June 2026, it dropped to 101st place, Galushkin ranked 134th, and Lyapunov ranked 161st.<\/p>\n

Deterioration of the position of Russian supercomputers, in particular, due to dependence on Western technologies and restrictions on updating NVIDIA equipment after the introduction of sanctions in 2022.<\/p>\n

Russia is no longer represented in the top 100 most powerful supercomputers in the world. According to him, Ukraine does not yet have computing systems comparable in power to Russian machines, but previously announced its intention to begin building its own supercomputer.<\/p>\n

At the same time, according to data, the restoration of equipment in Yandex data centers damaged by Ukrainian drone strikes may take up to 6 months. The publication’s sources in the IT market note that the company plans to purchase equipment through various channels, including abroad, in order to compensate for losses more quickly.<\/p>\n

Short-term price increases for equipment are expected. Additional infrastructure renovation costs may lead to higher costs for cloud services for Yandex customers.<\/p>\n
