Pope Leo XIV arrived at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on October 13 to undergo lung surgery. During a routine examination, doctors discovered a small mass on the pontiff’s chest, which they now plan to remove.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> Vatican News with reference to the press service of the Holy See.<\/p>\n

The operation will be performed by a team of thoracic surgeons led by Professor Stefano Margaritora.<\/p>\n

According to the Vatican, doctors discovered the tumor at a very early stage. It is small and has clear boundaries. However, doctors do not yet know whether it is malignant.<\/p>\n

More information about the Pope’s health is expected on the evening of October 13. After the operation, the pontiff will likely spend about a week in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Due to his hospitalization, the Vatican canceled all of his audiences until October 20.<\/p>\n

Leo XIV himself spoke about the upcoming surgery after Sunday prayers in St. Peter’s Square. After that, the pontiff began to receive well-wishes from church and political leaders from various countries.<\/p>\n
