On the night of October 14, Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy sector with 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 drones. At least 600,000 people were left without electricity. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the United States to respond harshly to the shelling.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by<\/a> Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his Telegram channel.<\/p>\n

According to the head of state, the main targets of Russian troops were energy facilities and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Kyiv region, and Kharkiv.<\/p>\n

As a result of the shelling, facilities and equipment at 26 elements of the power complex, as well as four facilities of the oil and gas complex, were damaged.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The President warned that the number of people left without power could increase. Repair crews, power engineers, and rescuers from the State Emergency Service are working at the damaged facilities.<\/p>\n

There are also reports of deaths and injuries as a result of Russian strikes.<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy appealed to Trump over energy attack<\/strong><\/p>\n

The president emphasized that Russia had inflicted a large-scale attack on energy infrastructure, although Donald Trump had previously announced an agreement to stop such attacks.<\/p>\n

“A targeted Russian ballistic strike precisely on the energy sector, for which the American President has declared a ceasefire. The strike is absolutely deliberate and indicative in its scale – there has never been such demonstrative disrespect from Russia towards America,” Zelensky said.<\/p>\n

In his opinion, Moscow’s actions indicate that the Russian leadership does not perceive the American president’s statements as a sufficiently significant deterrent factor.<\/p>\n

“We ask America and everyone in the world who does not close their eyes to reality to respond, and to respond harshly. Russia has squandered the opportunity for de-escalation and has clearly chosen to continue its insane war of annihilation,” the president noted.<\/p>\n

Ukraine asks for new sanctions and Patriot missiles<\/strong><\/p>\n

Separately, the head of state appealed to Donald Trump to increase sanctions pressure on Moscow.<\/p>\n

“We ask President Trump to impose strong sanctions against Russia, especially since the Lindsey Graham law, which was recently passed and signed, allows and regulates this,” Zelenskyy emphasized.<\/p>\n

The president also called on the US to transfer to Ukraine additional anti-missile packages for Patriot systems, which are used to counter Russian ballistic strikes.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeace can only come through strength, and we ask America to remember this Reagan principle,\u201d Zelenskyy concluded.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on October 11, US President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine and Russia had agreed on an energy truce<\/a> . According to him, the parties allegedly agreed to stop attacks on energy facilities. However, there was no official confirmation of the conclusion of such an agreement by the two states at that time.<\/p>\n

Volodymyr Zelensky later said that Trump’s announcement of the agreement had come as a surprise to him<\/a> . The Ukrainian president confirmed his readiness to support the cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure, provided that Russia takes appropriate action.<\/p>\n

In addition, Ukraine has scheduled talks with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner regarding Russian attacks on energy<\/a> . The Ukrainian side intends to present to American representatives information about the shelling that took place after Trump announced an energy truce.<\/p>\n
