Twenty-two U.S. congressmen from both parties have called on President Donald Trump to immediately implement all sanctions against Russia under the Lindsey Graham Act. They are also demanding that he explain what restrictions the administration plans to implement by October 18 and whether it intends to delay them or make exceptions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> Ukrainian journalist Ostap Yarysh on Facebook.<\/p>\n

In the letter, the lawmakers asked the Trump administration five key questions. In particular, they want to know which Russian officials, oligarchs, banks and state-owned companies will be sanctioned. Separately, the congressmen asked whether the restrictions would affect foreign banks, shadow fleet operators and intermediaries that help Moscow circumvent sanctions.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers are also demanding clarification on which countries the secondary tariffs will apply to and what criteria will be used to determine their rates. They want to understand how the administration will take into account actions by allies that are reducing purchases of Russian energy.<\/p>\n

Another issue concerns the effectiveness of sanctions pressure on Russia. Congressmen are demanding specific indicators to measure the impact of the restrictions, including a reduction in Russian energy revenues and a reduction in purchases of Russian oil and gas by other countries. They also want to know how the administration will report on the results to Congress and the American people.<\/p>\n

Separately, the authors of the letter asked to explain the easing of sanctions against the backdrop of the current legislative ban on the import of Russian energy resources.<\/p>\n

According to Jarish, this is the latest in a series of appeals by American lawmakers made public over the past few days. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is considering easing sanctions on Russian shadow fleet tankers<\/a> that have been transporting oil from Russia, Iran and Venezuela, as Washington seeks to reduce record-high freight rates.<\/p>\n

In addition, Ukrainian officials suspect that the administration of US President Donald Trump was preparing to lift sanctions against Russian diesel fuel even before the talks in Miami.<\/a> Kyiv said that Washington’s decision came as a surprise to the Ukrainian and European delegations and could damage the prospects for an energy truce.<\/p>\n

By the way, US President Donald Trump’s special representative, John Cole, proposed a new approach to relations with Russia – to seek the release of political prisoners in exchange for a gradual easing of sanctions and the restoration of economic ties<\/a> .<\/p>\n
