The equipment helps Russian drones maintain communication over long distances and attack targets deep inside Ukraine.

This is stated in the investigation of The Insider.

A journalist from the publication in Ukraine investigated a Xingkai Tech mesh modem found in a Russian Gerber drone. To find out whether the company is ready to supply such equipment for the needs of Russian military equipment manufacturers, the investigator introduced himself as a military supplier from the Russian Federation.

According to the results of the inspection, the Chinese company agreed to discuss the deal, despite the fact that the potential buyer directly reported the military purpose of the modems.

According to The Insider, Shenzhen Xingkai Technology controls about half of the market for powerful mesh modems used in Russian drones such as Geran and Gerber. Therefore, the supply of its products is of significant importance for the Russian production of such devices.

How much do modems for Russian drones cost?

During the negotiations, journalists asked to calculate the cost of a batch of 500 devices for the Alabuz plant. The company invoiced 19.5 million yuan — approximately $2.87 million.

To make a payment, potential buyers were offered to use accounts at three banks: DBS Bank, Ping An Bank, and China Merchants Bank.

As The Insider notes, representatives of the Chinese company were not stopped by the fact that the customers had informed them in advance about the use of the equipment for military purposes.

How mesh modems help Russian drones

A mesh network allows devices to transmit information to each other through intermediate nodes. In such a system, drones can relay signals, maintaining communication with other devices even when there is no direct channel to the operator.

Thanks to this technology, Russian drones can receive commands during flight and remain controllable at a considerable distance. In particular, mesh communication helps them operate deep inside Ukrainian territory, using areas where Ukrainian air defense capabilities limit signal interception.

According to the investigation, Chinese modems are a critical component of the communications systems used in Russian strike drones. Their supply could support the production and use of drones attacking Ukraine.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen Xingkai Technology has agreed to discuss selling mesh modems to a Russian drone factory in Alabuz.
