US Republican Senators Roger Wicker and Kevin Cramer have offered Ukraine a 100-day suspension of strikes on Russian oil refineries in exchange for expanding the Starlink operating range by about 300 kilometers into Russian territory. According to media reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his willingness to agree to this offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources familiar with the discussions.<\/p>\n

The senators presented the initiative during a visit to Kyiv on October 9 as part of a bipartisan delegation from the US Congress.<\/p>\n

As the publication notes, expanding the Starlink range could help the Ukrainian Defense Forces attack Russian launchers used to strike Ukrainian cities.<\/p>\n

In return, Kyiv would have to refrain from attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, including oil refineries, for 100 days.<\/p>\n

The Wall Street Journal sees such an agreement as a possible first step towards resuming the stalled peace process.<\/p>\n

The proposal came amid discussions of the so-called energy truce, which US President Donald Trump unilaterally announced on October 11.<\/p>\n

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine will resume attacks on Russian oil refineries because Moscow has not stopped its attacks on Ukrainian energy.<\/a> This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky after a three-day pause, which Kyiv observed at the request of the United States.<\/p>\n

In addition, on the night of October 14, the Ukrainian military recorded limitations in the operation of Starlink satellite communications, in particular the Starshield system.<\/a> Due to communication disruptions, it became more difficult for the Defense Forces to control drones, and some combat missions had to be canceled.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defense later reported that the operation of the Starshield satellite communication system in motion has resumed and is gradually improving.<\/a> The defense department continues to investigate the reasons for the restrictions that arose the day before and is checking the speed of the system at the front.<\/p>\n

However, the administration of US President Donald Trump denies involvement in the restrictions on Starlink operations in Ukraine.<\/a> Washington said it would contact SpaceX to find out the reasons for the problems.<\/p>\n
