Investors started to book profits amid expectations of increased Russian fuel supplies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/oil-slips-trumps-sanction-waiver-may-lead-more-russian-fuel-supplies-2026-10-18\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> this.<\/p>\n<p> Brent crude futures were down $2.29, or 2.08%, at $107.57 a barrel by 06:19 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $1.95, or 1.92%, to $99.46 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p> On Friday, Brent closed at its highest level since May 19, and WTI closed at its highest level since September 17.<\/p>\n<p> The price drop came after Trump signed an executive order exempting key sanctions and tariffs under the so-called \u201cGraham Act.\u201d US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the president would use a period of up to 60 days to assess the impact of the restrictions on the global economy.<\/p>\n<p> Analysts attribute Washington&#8217;s decision to attempts to contain rising energy prices ahead of the US midterm elections. At the same time, it does not eliminate problems with oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, where attacks on tankers continue.<\/p>\n<p> Tim Waterer, chief analyst at KCM Trade, noted that the easing of sanctions could increase Russian fuel exports. However, due to uncertainty about the terms and duration of the solution, the market is not yet pricing in a sustainable increase in supply.<\/p>\n<p> Trump&#8217;s decision follows his agreement with Vladimir Putin to export Russian diesel fuel to the United States and other countries.
