The Frankivskyi District Court in Lviv extended the pretrial detention of Mykhailo Stselnikov, who is accused of murdering Andriy Parubiy. He will remain in custody without bail until December 18.<\/strong><\/div>\n

The hearing took place on Tuesday, October 20. Prosecutor Taras Kovalchuk requested that the defendant’s detention be extended for another 60 days.<\/p>\n

After reviewing the petition, the judges went into deliberation and then decided to extend Stselnikov’s arrest.<\/p>\n

Present in court were the accused, his lawyer Viktor Ponomarenko, prosecutor Taras Kovalchuk, the deceased’s wife Ulyana Parubiy, and the victims’ lawyer Yuriy Zoshiy.<\/p>\n

At the preliminary hearing, the court examined video evidence and expert examination results in the case of the murder of Andrei Parubiy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a reminder, on August 30, former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada and European Solidarity MP Andriy Parubiy was assassinated<\/a> in Lviv. He was a symbol of resistance to<\/a> the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

It later emerged that a manhunt was underway<\/a> in the Lviv region for a shooter, and a photo of the suspected killer was published online. According to eyewitnesses,the shooter was a Glovo courier<\/a> who then hid the gun in his bag. A video<\/a> of the moment the MP was killed also appeared on social media.<\/p>\n

In this regard, a special operation called “Siren” was announced<\/a> in Lviv. Media reports indicated that police had allegedly already tracked down the perpetrator<\/a> .<\/p>\n

The Verkhovna Rada leadership, members of parliament, its apparatus, and its staff expressed condolences<\/a> over the murder of Andriy Parubiy, a member of parliament for several convocations and the speaker of the 8th convocation of parliament. European officials also commented<\/a> on the crime, calling it horrific.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy subsequently stated that the murder of MP and former parliament speaker Andriy Parubiy had been meticulously planned<\/a> . He stated that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) had also been involved in the investigation. The head of state also ordered that verified information be immediately provided to the public.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the European Solidarity faction issued an official statement on the death of Andriy Parubiy. Colleagues and friends reacted to the murder, calling it cynical and cruel<\/a> . “The murder of Andriy Parubiy is a shot to the heart of Ukraine<\/a> ,” emphasized the fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.<\/p>\n
