The government also plans to tighten the rules for Ukrainians to stay in the country.

This was reported by Ukrinform, citing a statement by the Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura.

According to Okamura, the parties in the government coalition are already finalizing the agreement on changes to aid for Ukrainians. The reduction in payments was a compromise between the three political forces.

“We are already finalizing a decision on a radical reduction in payments to Ukrainians. This is a painful coalition compromise, which means that we will reduce them by at least half,” he said.

At the same time, Okamura emphasized that his Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party advocates the complete abolition of financial assistance to Ukrainian refugees.

According to him, the Czech Republic currently spends about 8 billion crowns on such payments, and another 4 billion is allocated to health insurance for unemployed Ukrainians. The proposed changes should reduce state spending by about 4 billion crowns.

The corresponding amendments to the Lex Ukrajina law are still being prepared, but the expected savings have already been taken into account in the draft state budget. The parliamentary majority expects to adopt the document in the near future.

In addition to reducing payments, the Czech Republic proposes to tighten the conditions of temporary protection for Ukrainians. In particular, it is about canceling humanitarian aid for those who are unemployed and canceling temporary protection in case of staying outside the Schengen zone for more than 30 days.

The deputies also want to merge the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police, and other state institutions to more quickly check the legality of foreigners’ stay. Violations of the rules can result in the cancellation of a residence permit or administrative expulsion.

Separate changes will apply to cars with Ukrainian license plates. From mid-2027, they plan to introduce mandatory technical inspections and emission tests according to Czech regulations.

For violation of these requirements, the police will be able to detain cars and demand a deposit or a fine of 10 to 30 thousand Czech crowns.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

The Czech Republic is preparing amendments to its legislation that would cut social benefits for Ukrainian refugees by at least half.
