U.S. President Donald Trump is hoping to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia by December, during a G20 summit at his golf resort near Miami. Advisers say the American leader envisions a deal between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, even if it means getting Kyiv to agree to it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump is reportedly seeking to end the war in Ukraine within the next eight weeks. He has already made it clear that he would like to see Putin at the G20 summit, scheduled for mid-December. The Russian leader has not yet agreed to attend, but his participation would be his first visit to a multilateral summit in a Western country since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Zelensky also pledged to participate in the summit and expressed his willingness to meet with Putin in order to reach agreements to end the war.<\/p>\n

Trump’s desire to negotiate an end to the war is causing concern in Kyiv. The Ukrainian side fears that Washington may try to negotiate with Moscow about the future of Ukraine without its participation. In particular, the article mentions the possibility of putting pressure on Kyiv to abandon its claims to Donbas.<\/p>\n

“We are concerned that they are seeing this as a new Yalta Conference to divide the world into spheres of influence,” a Ukrainian official told the publication on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n

The publication also recalls that during his first presidential term, Trump tried to hold the G7 summit at his golf resort in Doral near Miami, but abandoned the idea after criticism over possible personal profit from the event. It is still unclear whether Trump will be able to reach an agreement within his time frame. At the same time, if he insists on his own scenario for ending the war, the negotiations could turn into a coercion of Ukraine into surrender.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that negotiations between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff have concluded in St. Petersburg.<\/a> The parties discussed a possible peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine for about three hours.<\/p>\n

In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a freeze on hostilities along the current front line could be a realistic path to ending the war with Russia.<\/a> He said Ukraine is ready to consider such a scenario, provided that further security guarantees are provided.<\/p>\n
