The operation helped thwart a Russian attempt to enter the Kupyansk rear.

This was reported by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”.

According to the corps, the total enemy losses during the operation exceeded 100 people. The Ukrainian military offensive took place simultaneously underground and on the surface. The infantry’s actions were coordinated with the work of drones, in particular units of the Achilles brigade.

Corps commander Ihor Obolensky said that the Ukrainian military used the experience of the Russians, who used underground communications to bypass Ukrainian defenses.

“The Russians believed that underground communications were their exclusive tool for bypassing our defenses. We learned from their experience, outplayed them on their own field, and turned this threat into our counteroffensive advantage,” he noted.

Preparation for the operation included physical and psychological training for operations in confined spaces. Sappers, engineers, and a support battalion prepared an underground route.

Due to the lack of GPS and stable radio communications, the military used special technological solutions for navigation, communication and life support. A coordination center, created jointly with the Achilles brigade, coordinated underground advances, surface operations and drone strikes.

“Synchronously with the underground offensive, the corps units advanced on the surface – so the enemy found itself under attack from two dimensions simultaneously,” the Charter reported.

The operation was led by the headquarters of the 2nd Corps of the NGU “Charter”. It involved the 13th Brigade “Charter”, units of the GUR, in particular the Legion “Freedom of Russia” and the Russian Volunteer Corps, the 23rd Assault Regiment “R.U.G”, the 21st Regiment of Unmanned Systems “Lava”, the 429th Brigade of Unmanned Systems “Achilles” and other units of the Defense Forces.

The corps called “Veles” the world’s first full-scale underground counteroffensive operation.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram .

During Operation Veles in the Kupyansk direction, Ukrainian soldiers advanced more than 15 kilometers underground behind Russian troops and captured more than 30 occupiers.
