Ukrainian military intelligence has revealed the characteristics of the new Russian cruise missile “Filin”, which the Russian Federation began using in late summer. The missile is capable of covering a range of up to 1,200 kilometers, and its electronics have been found to contain components of American and Chinese production.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on the War&Sanctions portal.<\/p>\n

The GUR published an interactive 3D model of the missile, information about its components and electronic component base. According to intelligence, the Filin was developed by the Russian company NPO Molniya, which is part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation.<\/p>\n

The missile became part of a Russian program to create relatively inexpensive air attack vehicles with a jet engine and ground launch.<\/p>\n

The fuselage of the “Filina” is made of composite materials – carbon fiber and fiberglass. The length of the rocket is 3.5 meters, and the wingspan is three meters. Individual parts are produced using 3D printing.<\/p>\n

According to the Russian side’s stated characteristics, the missile develops a speed of up to 800 km\/h and has a flight range of up to 1,200 km. It can fly at ultra-low altitudes or climb to a height of up to six kilometers. Variants with a warhead weighing 50 and 100 kg are provided.<\/p>\n

A rocket is launched from a ground-based installation using a powder accelerator.<\/p>\n

The GUR also identified the manufacturer of the Filina onboard equipment. It is the Russian LLC PLAZ, which is also involved in the production of the Harpy drones. According to intelligence, the electronic units of both products have a similar layout and markings.<\/p>\n

To guide the missile to the target, it uses a Chinese-made inertial navigation system and the 16-channel Comet system.<\/p>\n

The electronic component base of the Filina is generally similar to that used in other Russian missiles and drones. At the same time, intelligence drew attention to a significant number of foreign parts: among the identified components, 35 are American and 22 are Chinese. Russian manufacturers also unify technical solutions for various electronic units and boards.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the rocket’s engine is of Russian origin. It is manufactured by Reynolds, and the R500 model has previously been identified in the S-71K “Carpet” and S-71M “Monochrome” cruise missiles.<\/p>\n

The GUR emphasized that they continue to investigate new Russian developments and establish the origin of components used to produce weapons.<\/p>\n
