{"id":1457630,"date":"2026-10-26T16:03:56","date_gmt":"2026-10-26T14:03:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/ukraine-demands-cancellation-of-decision-to-hold-world-cup-in-russia\/"},"modified":"2026-10-26T16:03:56","modified_gmt":"2026-10-26T14:03:56","slug":"ukraine-demands-cancellation-of-decision-to-hold-world-cup-in-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/ukraine-demands-cancellation-of-decision-to-hold-world-cup-in-russia\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine demands cancellation of decision to hold World Cup in Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ukraine is preparing official appeals to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over the decision to hold the 2030 World Championships in Moscow.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/matvij.bidnij\/posts\/4603152859966001\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was announced by<\/a> the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidny.<\/p>\n<p> According to him, Ukraine will demand a review of the IWF&#8217;s decision, and will also raise this issue during the upcoming official meetings with the ministers of sports of the Council of Europe and the European Union.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe call for a review of this decision and a new, transparent selection of the country that will host the championship,\u201d said Bidny.<\/p>\n<p> The minister also called on the international sports community to publicly oppose holding the competition in Russia.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Bidny stressed that holding an international championship on the territory of a country that continues its war against Ukraine is unacceptable.<\/strong> In his opinion, the federation&#8217;s decision is especially cynical against the backdrop of increased Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cFor the Kremlin, such a championship will become a tool for propaganda and political rehabilitation of Putin,\u201d the head of the Ministry of Sports noted.<\/p>\n<p> He also called this a dangerous signal for the international community, as Russia continues the war and at the same time gets the opportunity to hold prestigious sports competitions.<\/p>\n<p> According to Bidny, Ukraine will use available mechanisms and cooperate with international partners to achieve a review of the decision.<\/p>\n<p> Recall that earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/vpershe-z-pochatku-povnomasshtabnoi-viyny-rosiia-pryyme-u-moskvi-chempionat-svitu-z-vazhkoi-atletyky\/\">the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) designated Moscow as the venue for the 2030 World Senior Championships<\/a> .
