Democrats in the US Congress are preparing for a possible investigation into President Donald Trump’s diesel fuel deals with Russia, and have already asked major US banks and ports to preserve documents related to such transactions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> Axios.<\/p>\n

Corresponding letters were received by six major US banks, including JPMorgan, Bank of America and Goldman Sachs, as well as port authorities in Texas and New York.<\/p>\n

Lawmakers are demanding that all documents related to the import of Russian diesel be preserved, including contracts, shipping documents, information about vessels, and correspondence with suppliers, intermediaries, and American officials.<\/p>\n

Banks and ports must confirm the safety of these materials by October 28.<\/p>\n

Democrats plan to make the investigation one of their priorities if they gain control of at least one chamber of Congress after the November 3 elections.<\/p>\n

The initiative was led by Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen. She was also joined by Republican Tom Tillis, who signed the petition.<\/p>\n

American lawmakers have questioned the legality of the Russian diesel deals, warning that buying fuel from Russia could provide Moscow with additional revenue to finance its war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the US Treasury Department considers Trump’s agreements with the Russian side to be legal.<\/p>\n

The White House criticized the Democrats’ initiative, accusing them of seeking to focus on yet another investigation against the president. <\/p>\n
