There they were placed together with Russian prisoners. Another group was transferred to the strict regime colony No. 5 in Morshansk, Tambov region.

At the same time, several Ukrainian political prisoners remain in Makiivka colony No. 32 and are awaiting deportation to Russia. Where exactly they will be transferred is currently unknown. Another 100–120 convicts from the colony-settlement operating at institution No. 32 will remain in Makiivka for the winter.

The transfer of prisoners to Russia began in August 2026. The first to be taken out were five Ukrainian servicemen and one civilian political prisoner.

It also became known where Ukrainian prisoner of war Vitaliy Chmil, who was taken from Makiivka in mid-August, is. He was initially held in a pre-trial detention center in Krasnoyarsk, and later transferred to maximum-security colony No. 1 in the city of Kyzyl, in the Republic of Tyva, near the Russian border with Mongolia. The soldier was able to inform his relatives about his whereabouts with the help of Russian volunteers.

According to the publication, about 35 Ukrainian political prisoners and military personnel were held in colony No. 32. Among them were five military personnel who were included in the exchange lists.

Most of the prisoners have been in captivity for 7–9 years. The occupation authorities sentenced them to prison terms ranging from 10 to 17 years under articles on “espionage”, “terrorism”, and “extremism”.

One of the reasons for the transfer of prisoners was the inability to provide proper conditions in the winter, the colony administration said. In particular, it was a lack of funds to purchase coal for heating, as well as interruptions in water and electricity supplies in the occupied territory of Donetsk region.

In addition, the transfer is linked to changes in Russian legislation. According to them, those convicted of terrorism and extremism should serve their sentences as far away from their place of residence as possible. Another reason is the non-compliance of the premises of colony No. 32 with Russian standards.

Re-equipment is already being carried out in the vacated premises, including the installation of video surveillance cameras.

In particular, during the prisoner exchange that took place on October 23, 2026 , two Ukrainian servicemen who were held in colony No. 32 returned home. These are Anatoliy Kapitsky, who was captured in 2020, and Serhiy Heremes, who was captured in 2018.

At the same time, more than 30 Ukrainians from this colony, who have already been included in the exchange lists, still remain in captivity.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Russia continues to deport Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian political prisoners from colony No. 32 in occupied Makiivka, Donetsk region.
