He previously served as Russia&#8217;s ambassador to Jordan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/personnel-appointments\/2026-10-27\/mr-gleb-desyatnikov-of-the-russian-federation-assistant-secretary-general-for-mine-action-and-police-the-department-of-peace-operations-%28dpo%29\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was reported<\/a> on the official UN website on October 27.<\/p>\n<p> Desyatnikov has been appointed to the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, which oversees peacekeeping missions. His area of work will include mine action and policing.<\/p>\n<p> The UN noted that the diplomat has over 35 years of experience in international relations, political issues, and security.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>What is known about Gleb Desyatnikov?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> He has served as Russia&#8217;s ambassador to Jordan since 2018. From 2010 to 2018, he served as deputy director of the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n<p> Prior to that, from 2004 to 2010, Desyatnikov was a senior advisor for the Middle East and North Africa at the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.<\/p>\n<p> The diplomat also worked at the Russian Embassy in Jordan, dealt with Iraq issues at the Russian Foreign Ministry, and participated in the work of the UN Special Commission on Iraq.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>The appointment came amid UN findings on Russian war crimes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The day before the announcement of the personnel decision, on October 26, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry into Violations in Ukraine recognized Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy as war crimes and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n<p> The commission concluded that Russia deliberately attacked energy infrastructure, depriving civilians of electricity, heating, and other essential services.<\/p>\n<p> Experts also reported cases of fraudulent recruitment of citizens of at least 29 countries to participate in the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p> Recall that earlier, <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/v-oon-vyznaly-rosiyski-udary-po-enerhetytsi-ukrainy-zlochynamy-proty-liudianosti\/\">the UN commission published conclusions about Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy and the forced involvement of foreigners in the war<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p> Also follow <strong>\u201cPryamim\u201d<\/strong> on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pryamiy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/prm_ua\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> , <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/+rtV4dxYu2_cyNjVi\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Telegram<\/a> , and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/pryamiy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a> .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Russian diplomat Gleb Desyatnikov as his assistant for mine action and police.
