Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia and the United States’ agreements on diesel fuel supplies could be the beginning of broader deals. He said Moscow could offer Washington new agreements on fertilizers, gas and frozen assets, as well as seek the lifting of sanctions against Russian individuals and entities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zelensky said<\/a> this during a conversation with journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.<\/p>\n

The head of state believes that the so-called “diesel deal” creates opportunities for Russia to advance other agreements with the United States. He also recalled that sanctions have previously been lifted from Russian oligarchs close to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n

Zelensky explained that Moscow is using its natural resources and energy reserves as an argument in negotiations with the United States. In his opinion, Russia seeks to offer Washington a kind of “economic marriage.”<\/p>\n

“Russia understands that, unlike other countries in the world, they have such natural resources, capabilities, reserves, and such vertical management of all this that they can really offer America a kind of ‘economic marriage’ – no matter how unfortunate it may sound,” the president said.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Zelensky doubted that such cooperation would be beneficial for the United States in the long term. He noted that Russian deals may seem attractive at first glance, but hide risks that will manifest themselves later.<\/p>\n

“In Russia, every agreement has some unpleasant part that is not immediately visible, but somewhere along the way it may seem that there may be benefits,” the head of state emphasized.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, 16 members of the US House of Representatives from the Democratic Party have introduced a bill on sanctions against the Russian oil and gas and oil refining industry<\/a> . The document provides for restrictions on American investments in the Russian energy sector, the cancellation of existing general licenses and a ban on the issuance of new permits.<\/p>\n

The United Kingdom, Finland and the European Union have reportedly reacted to the agreement between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply Russian diesel fuel to the US and world markets<\/a> . Representatives of European states and the European Commission stressed the need to maintain sanctions pressure on Russia and reduce dependence on its energy resources.<\/p>\n
