The Trump administration is trying to convince American companies to buy Russian diesel fuel. At least three tankers are already en route to the United States, but businesses are reluctant to deal with the cargoes because of potential legal and sanctions problems.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> The Washington Sun, citing representatives of the energy industry.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, the tankers left with Russian diesel in mid-October, after Trump allowed its import to the US on October 16, easing sanctions restrictions.<\/p>\n

However, finding buyers has proven more difficult than expected. American companies fear that deals with Russia could lead to lawsuits and investigations.<\/p>\n

The thing is, Democrats in Congress consider Trump’s decision illegal. They have already warned American ports, banks, and energy companies about possible liability for purchasing Russian fuel.<\/p>\n

According to one analyst, Washington and Moscow are actively persuading businesses to adopt diesel and are even offering big discounts. But there are no willing buyers yet.<\/p>\n

One of the tankers, the Agioi Fanendes, is carrying about 40,000 tons of diesel fuel. It was originally scheduled to arrive at the port of New York and New Jersey on November 7, but its route data later removed a specific destination.<\/p>\n

New Jersey Governor Mickey Sherrill said she is looking for ways to prevent Russian fuel from arriving at the state’s ports.<\/p>\n

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal also urged tanker owners to change their routes, warning that the companies could face investigations even after Trump’s presidency ends.<\/p>\n

Because of this, experts do not rule out that the tankers will eventually head to Brazil, which is already purchasing Russian diesel.<\/p>\n

The White House explains the decision by the desire to increase the amount of fuel on the world market and push Russia to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

At the same time, this move was criticized in Ukraine. Former economic advisor to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Oleh Ustenko, said that Ukrainians perceive the permission to import Russian diesel as an unfair decision against the backdrop of Russian attacks on civilians.<\/p>\n

He hopes that American companies and ports will refuse to accept these cargoes.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, US Senator Richard Blumenthal has spoken out against the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the US<\/a> , which was allowed by the Donald Trump administration. He warned shipping companies of possible legal consequences and urged them to abandon the shipments. <\/p>\n
