About 160 thousand people blocked in Mariupol are begging for help – the mayor

There are now about 160,000 civilians in Mariupol, blocked by Russian invaders, who are begging for their rescue.

Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko announced this in the UA telethon, Ukrinform reports.

“Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people in the blocked Mariupol. This figure is exactly 100,000 people, about 160,000, according to our estimates, today in the blockaded city of Mariupol, where it is impossible to live today because there is nothing – no water, no light, no heat, no communication. And it’s really scary. The humiliation that every Mariupol resident is going through today at the cost of this Russian occupation is impossible to put into words, ” said the mayor

He noted that today a complete evacuation of the city of Mariupol is needed and hope for this does not fade.

“We live in this hope… Now, for example, there are 26 buses that have to go to the city of Mariupol to evacuate, but today, unfortunately, there is no decision to start their movement… Under fire, our heroic drivers are trying to reach those points where Mariupol residents can be today, and they are waiting with the hope that they will have such an opportunity. But not everything is in our power, unfortunately, we are here in the hands of these occupiers today, “Boychenko stressed.

He also said that today he and many Ukrainians are hoping for our European friends and partners who will help organize the evacuation of civilians from the city destroyed by the aggressor.

The mayor said that he just like tens of thousands of Mariupol residents he was waiting with the hope that such a decision will be possible… They hope very much for their international partners, for their firmness, for their beliefs, for words of love. And, of course they cannot let go of this hope… They very much hope that the presidents of France and Turkey will reach out and open a stable “green corridor” for them, and they will take away those people who want to return to the controlled territory of Ukraine. They are asking and begging for it.
