10 people died in Odessa due to bad weather.

In Odessa, nine people died due to heavy rains and widespread flooding, including an 8-year-old girl.

The State Emergency Service and the Odessa Regional Department of Emergency Situations reported this.

According to Marina Averina, spokesperson for the regional State Emergency Service, the victims were a family of five living in the basement of their home. They were engulfed by a wave of water and were unable to escape. Three women were also killed after being unexpectedly engulfed by the current while still in the street.

Odesa Regional Police Chief Oleh Kiper clarified that the bodies of two men, two women, and a child were found on Sergei Eisenstein Lane. Rescuers are still working to pump out the water to reach the victims.

In total, according to the State Emergency Service, nine people died in the city due to the severe weather. More than 500 rescuers and 85 pieces of equipment were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the disaster. 362 people were rescued and 227 vehicles were towed.

As a reminder, Kyiv was previously hit by a powerful downpour – in just a few hours, almost half of the monthly rainfall fell in the city center.
