The International Olympic Committee has banned skeleton athlete Vladislav Geraskevych from competing at the Olympic Games wearing a helmet with the image of Ukrainian athletes who died as a result of the full-scale Russian invasion.
Geraskevych said this on Instagram.
“A decision that is simply heartbreaking. The feeling that the IOC is betraying those athletes who were part of the Olympic Movement by not giving them the opportunity to honor them in a sports arena where these athletes will never be able to enter again,” the athlete’s post reads.
He noted that despite precedents in the present and in the past, when the IOC allowed such honors, this time they decided to establish special rules for Ukraine.
Geraskevych stated that the Ukrainian side is preparing an official request to the IOC and will fight for the right to compete in this particular helmet.
As reported, the World Anti-Doping Agency announced its intention to consider information regarding the possible use of injections by athletes in ski jumping . If the facts are confirmed, the agency will check whether such methods can be considered doping.
