Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a visit to Washington, appealed to US President Donald Trump to provide Ukraine with an emergency “winter package” of Patriot interceptor missiles for air defense systems. According to the head of state, Kyiv seeks to receive 300 missiles by the beginning of winter to protect energy infrastructure from Russian strikes.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with Axios.

The president explained that Ukraine’s stock of interceptor missiles is almost exhausted, which means the country can no longer fully counter Russian ballistic attacks. This is precisely the reason, he said, why some of the missiles were not intercepted during the recent massive strikes on Kyiv.

Zelensky warned that without additional supplies, Russia could inflict critical blows on the Ukrainian energy system this winter.

“If this problem is not resolved by winter, Russian attacks could destroy Ukrainian power plants, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity and heating and creating a humanitarian crisis,” the president stressed.

At the same time, he noted that even after obtaining American licenses, the production of its own interceptor missiles will take from one to five years, so Ukraine cannot rely solely on this option.

“We needed Patriot yesterday,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the president, Russia launches 30 to 40 ballistic missiles during each large-scale attack, and such massive attacks occur approximately three to five times a month.

Recall that the day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. After the talks, the Ukrainian leader reported that the parties discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defense, joint production of interceptors for Patriot systems, and further diplomatic steps.

Zelensky later summed up his visit to the United States, during which he held talks with President Donald Trump at the White House and met with senators and congressmen on Capitol Hill. As a result of the talks, the parties agreed to intensify the diplomatic process, continue cooperation in the defense sector, and increase sanctions pressure on Russia.
