The High Anti-Corruption Court has scheduled a hearing on Yulia Tymoshenko’s pretrial detention petition for January 16. Representatives of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) plan to ask the judges to set bail at 50 million hryvnias.

In addition to the financial obligation, prosecutors are insisting on imposing a number of procedural obligations on the suspect. The case concerns accusations of attempted bribery of elected officials.

“The SAP will petition the court to impose a preventive measure of 50 million hryvnias bail on Tymoshenko, as well as to impose a number of procedural obligations on her,” stated SAP spokesperson Olha Postolyuk. She confirmed that the prosecution filed the petition on January 15, and the court hearing is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

As Pryamyi previously reported, the NABU and SAPO have served notice of suspicion on MP Yulia Tymoshenko, head of the Batkivshchyna faction. The investigation covers allegations of bribery of parliamentarians in exchange for supporting or blocking certain initiatives in the parliamentary session hall.

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine also released audio recordings in a case involving the alleged offer of improper benefits to members of parliament.

Under current legislation, such offenses carry severe penalties. Yulia Tymoshenko faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. Additionally, the article provides for the possibility of confiscation of property if guilt is proven in court.
