9 sailors, including two Ukrainians, freed from pirate captivity

Nine sailors who were captured by pirates in the territorial waters of Equatorial Guinea were freed from captivity.

This was reported by the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“Good news on the eve of the New Year 2026! Thanks to the active efforts of the shipowner and his representatives, as well as the direct assistance of colleagues from the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Senegal, on December 25, 2025, nine sailors captured by pirates were released from captivity,” the press service said.

As noted, among the released sailors are two citizens of Ukraine.

The department recalled that on December 3, a ship flying the Portuguese flag was attacked by pirates and crew members were kidnapped.
