Russian ballistic missiles struck three major Ukrainian steel plants in Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions in early September. The plants, which produced about 90% of Ukraine’s steel, are now idle, and 17 workers were killed in the attacks.

This is reported by the Financial Times .

According to Metinvest representative Oleksandr Vodoviz, it is currently unknown how long it will take for the enterprises to recover. According to his estimate, it could take from several days to months or years.

The shutdown of factories will also affect tax revenues to the state budget. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky stated the day before that the state could lose about $1.5 billion in tax revenues due to Russian attacks on business and logistics.

It is noted that this is a strike on the Kametstal steel plant in Kamianske, which was stopped after a nighttime ballistic attack. Also, in August, the country’s largest steel plant, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, was hit, which also had to suspend work.

It is worth adding that according to the results of 2025, Metinvest has already recorded a loss of $191 million with revenue of $7.2 billion, and one of the reasons was the shutdown of Pokrovskvugol, which wiped out $412 million in revenue from the mining segment.

By the way, on the night of September 12 , Russian troops launched missile strikes on the industrial enterprises “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” and “Zaporizhstal”. As a result of the attacks on “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”, 2 employees of contracting organizations were killed, 2 more were injured, and 4 employees at “Zaporizhstal” were injured.
