A 17-year-old girl died: a fatal ATV accident is being investigated in the Lviv region

In the Lviv region, suspicion was raised against the organizer of an ATV rental after a fatal accident in which a 17-year-old girl died. According to the investigation, the teenager was allowed to drive a faulty vehicle without the necessary skills and a driver’s license.

This was reported to the Lviv Oblast Police and the Lviv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office.

The tragedy occurred on April 16 near the village of Vynnychky, Lviv district. According to the investigation, a 35-year-old man was renting out ATVs that were not registered and did not meet technical requirements.

“Despite this, the ATV operator allowed a 17-year-old minor resident of the Lviv district to drive the vehicle, which had malfunctions in the braking system and exterior lighting system,” law enforcement officials reported.

Investigators determined that the girl did not have a driver’s license of the appropriate category and did not have the skills to drive such a vehicle. During the trip, she lost control, drove off the side of a dirt road, and the ATV overturned.

The minor died at the scene of the accident from her injuries.

The examination revealed that all the ATVs had non-working lighting systems, and one of the vehicles had faulty brakes. Also, none of them were registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center.

“Everyone who earns money by renting extreme equipment is obliged to guarantee its absolute serviceability and provide services legally,” emphasized the prosecutor in the case, Dmytro Moshkov.

The rental organizer was informed of suspicion under the article on the release into operation of technically defective vehicles. He faces up to five years in prison.
