A 24-year-old woman died of meningococcemia in the Koryukiv district of the Chernihiv region.
This was reported by Suspilne.
This happened two weeks ago, on November 4. Despite the fact that the woman sought medical attention, she could not be saved.
“The girl went to the ambulance when she was already very sick. The doctors performed resuscitation measures, but they were unable to save her,” said Artem Yaroshenko, deputy director general of the regional center for disease control and prevention of the Ministry of Health.
It is currently unknown how the woman contracted the disease. However, doctors have tested 18 people who came into contact with the patient.
According to Suspilny, last year five patients with meningococcemia were registered in the Chernihiv region, and in the first 10 months of 2025, two cases were reported.
The doctor noted that the disease is very dangerous and causes outbreaks. He emphasized that if medical help is not sought in time, there can be fatal consequences.
“Death occurs if a person tries to treat themselves. When a rash appears, then a person turns to doctors. But when a rash appears, it is almost the final stage,” he explained.
As noted, the most reliable way to protect against meningococcemia is the vaccine. In addition, it is worth observing the rules of personal hygiene, washing hands frequently, as well as ventilating the premises and avoiding crowded places during outbreaks of infection.
As a reminder, UK health officials are sounding the alarm over a new mutated strain of flu spreading around the world.
