A 295 million UAH scheme: Ukrgazvydobuvannya uncovers embezzlement due to inflated tenders

Law enforcement officials have uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme at Ukrgazvydobuvannya , which cost the state more than 295 million hryvnias in damages.

This was stated by the Security Service of Ukraine , the Bureau of Economic Security and the Office of the Prosecutor General .

According to investigators, the deal was orchestrated by officials of a state-owned company, along with associated businessmen. The scheme involved embezzling funds allocated for procurement by artificially inflating prices for gas production materials.

Investigators established that controlled companies purchased necessary materials at market prices and then resold them several times through fictitious agreements. As a result, the cost of the goods doubled or tripled, and these products were then sold to the state-owned company through tenders at the maximum price.

A forensic economic examination confirmed that such actions resulted in damages of more than UAH 295 million.

The head of a private enterprise and an official at Ukrgazvydobuvannya, who was responsible for organizing procurement, have been charged with misappropriation of property through abuse of office (Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Law enforcement officials are deciding on appropriate measures. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
