A case of bird flu was detected for the first time in one of the European countries
The first case of human infection with avian influenza type A(H9N2) in Europe was recorded in Italy.
This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Health, Euronews reports.
The infected patient arrived in Italy from outside Europe. He is currently in isolation in a hospital, receiving treatment and being monitored by doctors. The man is known to have underlying medical conditions.
Doctors have already identified all people who came into contact with the patient and are monitoring their condition to prevent the possible spread of the infection.
The agency emphasizes that there have been no previously recorded cases of human-to-human transmission of this strain of bird flu. Most often, infection occurs through contact with infected birds or a contaminated environment.
According to European experts, such cases are rare in the world and usually do not lead to mass spread among people.
Experts assess the risk to the European population as very low.
