A crashed Russian drone was found near Istanbul: what is known

A Russian Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle has crashed in Turkey near the city of Izmit in the Kocaeli province. The incident occurred in a rural area about 50 kilometers from Istanbul, and an official investigation has been launched.

According to available information, local residents discovered a stationary aircraft on the ground in the rural area of Kubuklubala. After that, they reported the find to the relevant services.
After receiving the report, gendarmerie units were dispatched to the area where the drone crashed. The area around the scene was cordoned off to document the circumstances of the incident and collect primary data.
Journalists noted that the found device was identified as a Russian reconnaissance drone Orlan-10. Turkish authorities have launched an investigation to determine the flight route and the reasons for the drone’s crash.
The incident was the second drone-related incident in Turkey in a week. Earlier, on December 15, Turkish F-16 fighter jets shot down an unidentified drone over the Black Sea.
Journalists also reported that the drone crashed in the Izmit countryside in Kocaeli province.
“A Russian-made Orlan-10 UAV crashed in the countryside of Izmit, Kocaeli, Turkey,” the report said.

As you know, the Orlan-10 is a medium-range multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle. It has been in service with the Russian Ministry of Defense since 2010 and is used for aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, monitoring, radio signal detection, and target tracking.
