A drug addict kidnapped a 13-year-old girl in Bukovina: the child has already been found, and the suspect has been detained

In Bukovina, law enforcement officers have detained a man involved in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl who did not return home after school. The child has been found, and her life and health are not in danger.

It is noted that on February 10, the police received a report of the disappearance of a 13-year-old resident of Chernivtsi, who did not return home from school. Law enforcement officers immediately launched a large-scale, continuous search operation.
Police officers checked the child’s possible whereabouts, analyzed surveillance camera footage, and established her circle of contacts. The National Guard of Ukraine, volunteers, and local residents joined the search.
As a result of the measures taken, law enforcement officers established the girl’s location and detained a 37-year-old resident of Chernivtsi, who was involved in her kidnapping.
Investigators previously found out that the man lured the child into the car, offering to give him a ride. He then took the girl away and held her against her will in relatives’ homes in the Chernivtsi district, where no one temporarily lives.
The man was likely under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest. The police also found that he had previously been repeatedly prosecuted for driving while intoxicated.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under Part 3 of Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Unlawful Deprivation of Liberty or Kidnapping of a Person”. The issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved. The procedural management is carried out by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office, investigative actions are ongoing.
Specialized specialists are working with the girl, providing her with psychological assistance.
The police urge parents to monitor the whereabouts of their children and remind them that if a child goes missing, they should immediately contact the “102” hotline.
